WBC History
The history of the Willow Bend Church is short compared to many churches, but it is rich with the work of God and all the wonderful things he has done for us. To the congregation of Willow Bend the "Church is the people", not a building. You can follow the text links below to view some of our history.
Willow Bend, which prides itself in its casual dress code and atmosphere and openness to people of other Christian denominations, began meeting in May 1992 at the city's Kleeman Community Center. Willow Bend Church met in the Kleeman Recreation Center, then rented space in the Warioto Plaza.
During much of the life of Willow Bend, we met in the upper level of the Warioto Plaza, just off Riverside Drive in south Clarksville. During this time we grew from a church of twenty, to a church of almost a hundred. We have been meeting there for five years and our last service there was an emotion filled day. We moved in October of 1997 to the Baptist Student Center at Austin Peay State University.
From October 5, 1997 to February 28, 1998 we met in the Baptist Student Union at Austin Peay State University. This was a very special time in the church and we know that God is going to continue to bless us. We would like to give a heavenly thanks to the Baptist Student Union for the help in the growth of the Willow Bend Church.
From March 5 to June 7, 1998, we met in the Greater Missionary Baptist Church on Ringgold Road. The Greater Missionary Baptist Church so kindly opened the doors to their beautiful new facility to the Willow Bend Church congregation.
From June 14, 1998 to July 13, 2003, we met in the Trane Union Hall on Union Hall Road. We have many fond memories during this era.
Willow Bend has purchased ten acres near the intersection of Interstate 24 and Trenton Road (exit 1). In the years to come we plan to build a multi-purpose center, worship center, and classrooms for a Christian School. Until that time we are meeting whenever and wherever we can. Thank God for a country that we can worship him publicly. Keep praying for our family as we grow toward being what God wants us to be. On December 29, 2002, we broke ground for our new Worship Center on Northfield Drive in north Clarksville.
That building was completed in October of 2003 and dedicated on October 19th. Our Dedication Service was a wonderful success! Pastor Ed King from Redemption Church in Knoxville, Tennessee was the guest speaker and a Paul and Beth Chisenhall did special music. Pictures of the Dedication Service can be found here.
Currently the church meets at 1235 Northfield Drive in our new building. Morning worship is at 10:30 AM. We will be scheduling other services at other times as the church continues to grow. These services will be listed on the home page.
